Governance
Governance and Sovereignty.
The two programs in this section are the Foundation’s answer to the central risks of Synthetic Intelligence: misuse and extraction. Governance by SI is how we protect humans from the misuse of SI; Sovereign SI is how we protect creators from the extraction of what they make with it.
Governance by SI.
A framework and toolset that uses Synthetic Intelligence — under human direction — to monitor, audit, and protect humans from the misuse of other Synthetic Intelligence. Where human governance has lagged, SI-assisted governance can operate at the relevant speed and scale.
How it works.
- Monitor. SI agents observe SI-assisted systems for behaviors that violate published norms. They surface what they see in language a human can act on.
- Audit. Periodic deep-checks, run by independent SI agents, against systems that have asserted compliance with a Foundation-published standard.
- Protect. When a system is found to be doing harm, the framework supports the human-led response — remediation, withdrawal of certification, public disclosure — with evidence the response can stand on.
Every action under this framework is taken by a human, on advice from SI. SI is the magnifier; humans remain the actors. That distinction is the whole point.
Audience: institutions, civic technologists, and Webspinners deploying SI in sensitive contexts.
Outcome: demonstrable, auditable, human-directed protection mechanisms.
Sovereign SI.
A set of tools and standards that ensure synthetic assets — models, datasets, generated work, derived intelligence — remain owned by their makers. Sovereign SI is the legal and technical assertion that what you make with SI is yours, full stop.
What it guarantees to creators.
- Ownership. The Foundation does not claim a license to anything you produce with our tools.
- Privacy. Private information is not collected, so it cannot leak. The Foundation does not harvest your work into someone else’s training set.
- Portability. Your work can be extracted from the Foundation’s infrastructure for you to host wherever you choose. A Webspinner site is never a hostage of the platform that birthed it.
- Provenance. Synthetic assets carry a verifiable provenance trail — who made them, with what tools, under what license. The provenance is the receipt.
Audience: every Webspinner; every creator using Foundation tools.
Outcome: a working alternative to the surveillance-and-extraction default of commercial SI platforms.
